Suggested Prayer for Prayathons

If people would like a suggested prayer for Prayathons, then you can actually recite The Angelus below, which is very easy to memorise. But if preferred, by all means use your own prayers, meditation, contemplation etc. - whichever suits.

V. The angel of the Lord declared unto Mary;
R. And she conceived of the Holy Spirit.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou amongst women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now, and in the hour of our death. Amen.

V. Behold the handmaid of the Lord:
R. Be it done unto me according to Thy word.

Hail Mary, full of grace, .....

V. And the Word was made flesh:
R. And dwelt among us.

Hail Mary, full of grace, .....

V. Pray for us, O Holy Mother of God.
R. That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

Let us pray:
Pour forth, we beseech Thee, O Lord, Thy grace into our hearts, that we, to whom the incarnation of Christ, Thy Son, was made known by the message of an angel, may by His passion and cross be brought to the glory of His resurrection, through the same Christ our Lord.
R. Amen.

Stephen Acocella: Pearl Harbour War Veteran Passes Away

Stephen Acocella was the uncle of my brother-in-law Tony Acocella who is married to my sister Cecilia in the States.
His Obituary tells a fascinating story of a warm, brave and dedicated family man who always kept his faith. Here is a section:
Stephen H. Acocella, 93, while at home, went peacefully to be with the Lord on May 27, 2015. Stephen was born on December 23, 1921 in Montclair, NJ to his parents, Antonio and Margaret Sadie Acocella and was the 8th in his family of 12 brothers and sisters. He attended Montclair schools and enlisted in the USMC right out of high school in July 1940 so that he could send money back home to help his family. At that time, he received $21.00 a month and sent his Dad $15.00 of it every month. He received his boot camp training in Paris Island, S C, served nine months in Cuba then was sent to Pearl Harbor, Hawaii where he served in the defense of Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. His battery of 60 men was in a sugar cane field at Salt Lake Camp near the Harbor at Hickman Air Field when the attack occurred. They had no weapons or ammunition when the bombing and strafing took place and out of frustration threw rocks and potatoes at the enemy planes. He witnessed the sinking of the USS Arizona and participated in action against the enemy at Vella Lavella, 15Aug43-11May44. He did his first tour of duty overseas without a furlough home for 4 years. His two tours totaling 5 years, 5 months were in the Pacific. Stephen was in Okinawa when the war ended and was discharged in December 1945 with the rank of Sergeant. Stephen's story and interview has been recorded in the Library of Congress.

May he Rest In Peace.

"Prayathon" for The Sick.

I recently sent out an email to a large section of family asking for prayers to be said for Rita Cunningham (née Murphy - my sister) and Rosemary Murphy (née Wright - my brother Michael's wife) at a set time each day for the month of  June.
There has been a wonderful response from cousins and family and I thank you all.
Kitty Cannon, in her reply email, described it as a "Prayathon".
The "Prayathon" gave me an idea. We could extend it to any family member(s)(including brothers, sisters, mums and dads, cousins, nephews and nieces, uncles and aunts etc.?, who become seriously ill.
If I am informed of names, I will put it on the blog, and designate a particular month for the Prayathon to be said, for that particlar person or persons.
If anyone has further ideas on the subject let me know, or add a comment on the blog.
(Please mote, the comment may take a day or so to get published as I have to check it to avoid "spam")
God Bless,
Cormac x
