Mascot Rhodri the Lucky Ticket For The Toffees!

Gerard Canon's son Rhodri was selected as mascot for Everton's pre-season's friendly with Crewe for the 2004-5 season. He is pictured here with manager David Moyes, and former Everton Great, Duncan Ferguson. This was the season in which Everton finished 4th. Rhodri certainly was the Lucky Mascot for the Blues!

Kelly and Waugh Families - John Murphy

I went to St Winnies infants with Joan Waugh and when the Juniors went mixed we joined up again in the top class. Our Therese used to go swimming with Margaret because there was no mixed bathing and they kept each other company. When Therese left the Juniors, Margaret, because of her age did another year and came into my class when we went mixed. Both Joan and Margaret were excellent swimmers and competed in many galas. The Waughs lived in Keeble Road and presumably went to St Richards church?Margaret's achievement in the 1980 Olympics (Silver in the medley relay and captain of the team) cannot be overstated. Although the American's were not there they would have made little difference to the cheating East German (GDR) drug cheats. Margaret's team should have won the gold without a doubt. John

Aunty Molly & Uncle Frank's Great Grandchildren

Here are Eira and Rhodri, Gerard Cannon's two fast-growing children! They recently returned from Wexford where they spent New Year. Gerard is grandson to Aunty Molly and Uncle Frank, and son of Michael - the oldest of all the cousins. Gerard tells me his dad is generally OK but is having breathing problems. We wish him all the best.

Sad News from Kelly & Waugh Families of Bootle

Many of the Bootle and Liverpool relatives will know of the Kelly family from Canal Street, Bootle. There were 8 children, and several of the Murphys were at school with them. I went to school with Jim, and Therese with Margaret Kelly (MBE) or Margie. I am sure our Rita and Susa went to school with some of the sisters. Margie is best known for her prodigious swimming achievements, and won a silver medal at breastroke at the 1980 Moscow Olympics. Margie has told me that her older sister Pat passed away at the end of last year, shortly after her 60th birthday.
Margie also told me that another member of a large Bootle family passed away just after Christmas. Cathy Waugh came from a big family of girls, her sisters included Joan and Margie. Teresa Kelly attended the funeral on the 4th of January.
We all offer the Kelly & Waugh families our sincerest condolences, and may Cathy and Pat Rest In Peace. God Bless.
