Murphys of Mullaghbawn

Michael Murphy left Mullaghbawn in South Armagh for Liverpool at the start of the 20th century. It was here he married Mary Pender. This is the story of their nine daughters and one son, their children and grandchildren. "Cead Mille Failte"

If you have a PC - set up skype and your telephone calls to each other are free!!!

If you're not using it, then download skype for free phone calls over the internet. Just go to skype.com and download, and follow the instructions. You set up a skype name (which people will use to connect to you) - and you can then call other skype users anywhere in the world for nothing!!! It is called voice over IP (internet Protocol). If your PC's internal mike and speakers are okay, you won't need a headset. If not, you can buy a little headset and mike for next to nothing. So when you click a friend/family skype name on your PC, the skype software will check if the other person is online - if so, the PC will ring like a phone. The receiver clicks the green button on his PC and connection is made.
If you have a skype account, but family members don't have a PC - you can still call their landline or mobile with skype. Here is where you have to pay - but the rates are ridiculouly cheap. This is done by buying skype credit - just follow instructions. I can get 10 hours talk time for €10 - any landline/mobile in the world. If you have any questions post a comment, and I will try and answer them. I will send you my skype name by email. My son Leam is on skype and is in Belgium and we can talk for ages completely free. Happy skyping!

Photos & Photo Albums,Archiving and Postings

There is no problem uploading single pictures to a posting on our blog site, but it becomes impractical if we have hundreds of pictures. So we can use a free site to create a photo album and let blogger upload the link(URL). If you want me to collect all photos from the reunion for example, I can put them in an album, and everyone can view them. I have a CD for the 2003 album, and I can create an album for that as well. The same with all the old family pics. If any of you wish to me to do a specific posting, email me, and I will post it on the site. At the moment, visitors may only add comments, not postings. Please note I will archive all postings/comments on a monthly basis. eg June 2006, July 2006, August 2006 etc.
I took below info from blogger help.
There are a number of sites that offer free photo album services services. You can do a Google search to find them, or you can start by checking out some of these links:
DotPhoto
Fotki
Ofoto
Shutterfly
SmugMug
Blogger.com lets you post photos
directly to your blog, and Windows users can use the Hello BloggerBot for photo-posting.

Another Lily Murphy about to join the family!

Aunty Lily Murphy (married Paddy Herlihy) was of course one of the nine sisters and now, Anastasio(Stas), Sue Murphy's son, will marry another Lily Murphy!
Anastasio John Michael James, second son of Sue & Ben Van Bilderbeek, will be getting married to Lily Victoria Murphy, daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Christopher Murphy on Saturday, 26th August 2006.
Stas will be married in the Church of The Immaculate Conception, 114 Mount Street, London. What's amazing here is that it's the same church his parents were married in. I met Lily at Binky's(Stas's brother) wedding last year - and she is a fine girl, and all of us welcome him into the family. Congratulations!

The Murphy Reunion May 2006 - Adelphi Hotel Liverpool

This was the 3rd such reunion of the Murphy Clan - and again many thanks to Des & Sue Herlihy for doing such a wonderful job organising the event. Also thanks to those who helped gather family photos together for the display in the Adelphi function room. Well done to all those people who had to make significant journeys to attend the reunion. For example: Jim herlihy from the US, John Cormac Murphy from Hong Kong and of course, the Irish contingent.
It was great to see Laura Gomez Murphy, at the sprightly age of 88years, receiving a wonderful boquet of flowers. Laura is the last of the generation and only remaining spouse of the 9 sisters and brother. She is pictured her with her flowers and daughter Rita.
I had a great time at the do, and as always, the time seems to go so quickly, and you never seem to get the time to speak to everyone. This is why the Sunday post-reunion get-together is always a good idea. Please add your comments on your experiences of the reunion.

The Introduction - The First Posting

Hi Everybody,
This is what is known as a weB Log - or Blog for short. You may already be familiar with this web technology - but it is a way to present news and to communicate between families - and setting up a blog website is free - on www.blogger.com anyway!
To encompass all the Murphy families, I entitled the blog "Murphys of Mullaghbawn" which is the common thread for all of us. This is my first go at this, so I welcome all suggestions on improving the template, layout, content etc. Picture on left if Michael Murphy(Big Dah) and wife Mary with their children: Susan, Molie & Josie. (Anyone know the year?)
All family members can post comments, which can include family news, photos, up and coming events - anything. People may wish to share addresses, or inform of recent marriages, engagements, or if anyone of us are ill. Due to the size of the extended family, sadly a lot of these events have been missed. If you are setting up your own websites feel free to advertise. Also, if any family members wish to advertise their business then go ahead. Let me know if you need any help
You can also add links(URLs) to other related sites. You may wish to pass the blog address onto close friends of your families, who may want to post a comment.
We could also introduce a 'history of the family' feature each week or month - as we trace the movement of the family from Mullaghbawn to Liverpool - I am sure Des Herlihy could help out here. So to add a comment, click on 'comment' at the end of a particular posying you wish to comment on. Happy Blogging everyone. God Bless, Cormac
